TRA supports National initiative on digital safety following strategic meeting with TikTok delegation
August 01, 2025

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) is at the heart of the Ministry’s initiative in shaping Lebanon’s digital safety and public policy framework following a meeting with representatives from TikTok and key national stakeholders.

The meeting, held earlier today at the Ministry of Telecommunications, was attended by H.E. Minister of Telecommunications Mr. Charles Hage, TRA Acting Chairman Mr. Amine Moukheiber, Director General of Investment and Maintenance of the Ministry Mr. Bassel El Ayoubi, along with representatives from Alfa, Touch, and a visiting delegation specialized in public policy from TikTok, including Mr. Fatih Kafadar, Ms. Malak Jaafar, and Ms. Zaina Mohamed.

TikTok requested the meeting to explore opportunities for collaboration with Lebanese authorities and telecom operators. Discussions focused on strengthening digital safety, promoting media literacy, aligning with national regulations, and examining investment opportunities within Lebanon’s digital ecosystem.

As part of its presentation, TikTok outlined its global safety protocols, which include advanced age verification systems, AI-driven content moderation, and geo-blocking capabilities to align with local laws. TikTok representatives emphasized their willingness to support Lebanon’s efforts in building a secure and responsible digital environment.

As the TRA remains committed to its mission of protecting users the Authority welcomes TikTok’s proposal for a three-pillar collaboration model, centered around:
  • Content regulation in compliance with Lebanese law
  • Public policy and taxation frameworks
  • Community-focused programs for digital literacy and online safety
Minister Hage endorsed the initiative, directing the creation of official TikTok accounts for both the Ministry and the TRA. He also announced the launch of a Social Media Advisory Group and called for a clear action plan to guide collaboration through the end of the year.
